Varicose veins of the lower extremities (varicosis) is a pathological phenomenon in which the vessels are affected, after which the veins expand, their elasticity is lost, which subsequently leads to impaired blood flow.

Chronic venous disease includes any changes in the veins of the lower extremities, which entail a combination of symptoms and signs and become chronic. Venous insufficiency is an integral part of varicose veins of the lower extremities.

Causes of varicose veins

  1. Hypodinamic lifestyle;
  2. genetic predisposition;
  3. weak venous walls;
  4. excess weight;
  5. hormonal disorders;

Also, varicose veins often begin to manifest during pregnancy. This is due to the fact that the veins that are in the pelvis, are overwhelmed. After that, there is strong pressure on them and at the same time the blood flow to the legs deteriorates. As a result, the veins overflow with blood and expand.

Main symptoms of varicose veins:

  • heaviness and severe pain in the legs;
  • the presence of dark vascular networks;
  • frequent cramps;
  • swelling;
  • vein thickening and pain in this area;
  • brown pigmentation of the legs.

If the above symptoms are present, especially when reddening and hardening in the area of their location, urgent consultation of the phlebologist is necessary. Since the severe advanced form of this disease can even lead to disability.

According to research, more than 70% of the population of Ukraine suffer from varicosis. The experience of our phlebologists shows that the majority of patients who turn to a specialist with this pathology have the advanced form of varicose veins. If you do not start treating the disease in time, complications may appear.

It is not the varicose disease itself that is dangerous, but thrombophlebitis that appears on the background of varicose veins.

Thrombophlebitis (inflammation of the inner wall of the vein) leads to the formation of blood clots, which can block the lumen of the vein with the formation of phlebothrombosis, and also, coming off the vessel wall, through the system of the inferior vena cava into the lungs.

Sclerotherapy

This method of treatment of varicose veins is effective in the early stages of the disease.

The sclerosant (a special substance), using a syringe with a thin needle, is injected into the lumen of a varicose vein or telangiectasia. When this occurs, obliteration (sclerosis) of the vessel lumen occurs by destruction of the endothelium (inner wall of the vessel). In simple words, the injected substance contributes to the bonding of the vessel walls, the blood does not flow and over time it becomes thinner and disappears.

The operation is performed on an outpatient basis and takes no more than 20 minutes.

The procedure is completely painless and does not require anesthesia. In one operation, it’s possible to do from 2 to 10 injections. In rare cases, the doctor prescribes a second session.

Hospitalization is not required.

After surgery, the use of an elastic bandage or compression garment, as prescribed by a doctor, is indicated. Disability does not occur.

The estimated cost of such treatment is 250 – 450 euros, depending on the affected area.

Miniflebectomy, price in Kiev

Miniflebectomy

Miniflebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that treats varicose veins, the operation is performed using local anesthesia, since it does not require serious surgical intervention and does not pose any danger.

The procedure can be performed as an independent method of treatment of varicose disease, as well as an auxiliary method for the radical treatment of varicose veins (cross-sectionomy, stripping).

During surgery, varicose veins are removed through minimal incisions (punctures) on the skin with the help of special tools. This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia.

Advantages of miniflebectomy:

  • surgery is cosmetic;
  • there is no damage to the nerves;
  • possible to hold on any site;
  • the vein is completely removed;
  • no pain;
  • no need for hospitalization.

After surgery to remove a vein, the use of compression underwear for a month isneeded, as well as physiotherapy procedures as prescribed by a doctor.

Term of disability is 1-2 days.

The estimated cost of such treatment is 250 – 380 euros.

Varicose veins, removal in Kiev

Operation – Stripping

This is an operation to remove a varicose vein, which is used both for cosmetic correction and for the treatment of complicated forms of varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency, when venous bleeding ispossible, or there is a risk of trophic ulcer.

During the Stripping operation, the large saphenous vein is extracted along its entire length from the groin to the foot by means of two incisions – one in the groin area at the level of the inguinal fold and the second in the leg region. The vein is removed by inserting a Bebcock’s probe into the lumen, followed by extraction of the probe along with the vein.

This operation is low-impact and with a good cosmetic effect. In 90% of cases, patients completely get rid of varicose veins and the danger of its recurrence, as well as the danger of the appearance of trophic ulcers.

The intervention can be performed under local as well as under general anesthesia, completely painless, lasting from 40 minutes to 1 hour.

The term of hospitalization is 1 day.

After the operation using of compression knit wear and procedures prescribed by the physician during the month is needed.

Full rehabilitation, as a rule, comes in 4 weeks.

The estimated cost of such treatment is 560-860 euros.

Crossectomy – Troyanov-Trendelenburg’s operation

This is a radical varicosis treatment.

Crossectomy is the only treatment for acute thrombophlebitis. It is highly traumatic; therefore it is used only for the treatment of thrombophlebitis and vein thrombosis, with the development of thromboembolism, when other methods are powerless.

The method consists in the mouth resection of the large (and small) saphenous vein and all its tributaries. During this operation, the experience and skill of phlebologists surgeons plays a big role. The disadvantage of this intervention is a big scar on the hip.

The operation can be performed under both local and general anesthesia, completely painlessly.

The term of hospitalization is 1 day.

After the operation of Crossectomy  it is recommended to use within 1-2 months of compression knit wear and physiotherapeutic procedures as prescribed by a doctor.

Full rehabilitation, as a rule, comes in 4 weeks.

The estimated cost of such treatment is 600-920 euros.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW?

Operations are performed under anesthesia (intravenous, spinal, local). On average, one overnight stay in the hospital is required after such type of surgery. Compression knit wear is needed within a month after surgery. Full rehabilitation occurs 4 weeks after the surgery.
